"Recession-proof" stocks lead rebound




Jan 9 - U.S. stocks rallied as investors bought so-called economically resilient stocks like Coca-Cola, Merck, and Altria Group after Goldman Sachs warned of a pending recession.

The Dow surged 146 points to 12,735. The S&P 500 rose 18 points to 1,409.

The Nasdaq ended an eight-day losing streak to rise to 2,474.

Gold prices moved closer towards $900 an ounce.REUTERS VIDEO
