DreamTai and Indian Stocks

Sai: I am having trouble using dreamtai with Indian BSE and NSE stocks ? Can you suggest how to get started there ?

Hi Sai,

Are you planning to use DreamTai for Indian stocks?

The reason I am writing is that DreamTai does not do automatic download of prices for Indian stocks.

That is beacuse Bombay Stock exchange does not give out free quotes, but it sells it.

So, if you are not planning to purchase the data, you have to manually update the price files.

Yes, you can import data from other programs like Metastock, if they have the ability to
export data in CSV format.

In DreamTai, the price data files are stored in the same folder as DreamTai.
Example: For DreamTai version 5.02.21, the data is stored in the following folder:

C:\DreamTai_50221\data\pricedata

Go to DreamTai folder. In it, there is a folder named data which contains the pricedata folder.
This folder has the price data files.

They are stored in CSV format. For example, if you had entered Microsoft
ticker symbol in Dreamtai, DreamTai will download data for microsoft and
store it in a file named MSFT.CSV.
( The ticker symbol for microsoft is MSFT)

You can open and edit CSV data in Microsoft Excel or notepad.
The price data is in form of following data separated by commas:
Date, Open , High, Low, Close, Volume, Adjusted Close
( If you do not have Adjusted close, just substitute it by Close data)
Note: Do not use Microsoft Word to open these files, as Word adds special formatting characters to the data and corrupts it. NoptePad is the best way to open the data files.

Suppose you want to analyse data for a commodity or forex currency named XYZ
which is not listed in Yahoo Finance.
Export data from your program in CSV format. See that the data has fields
arranged in
following sequence:
Date, Open , High, Low, Close, Volume, Adjusted Close
( If you do not have Adjusted close, just substitute it by Close data)

and save the file as XYZ.csv.

Next, we have to add the symbol XYZ to the watchlist.
This is a one time step. You do not have to do this step every time you download data.

Go to the following folder:

C:\DreamTai_50221\data\watchlists

You will see files WL_1.txt, WL_2.txt and so on upto WL_30.txt
These files are the 30 watchlists which contain stock ticker symbols.

Open a watchlist file, for example, WL_1.txt using Notepad.

You will see it contains stock ticker symbols, one ticker symbol per line.
Now,  go to the last row in the file and add symbol XYZ ( or whatever your stock ticker symbol is) in a new line and save the file and close it.

Now start DreamTai and select the Watchlist where you had added the ticker symbol.
When you click on the LOAD button, a pop up will appear "Do you want to
download data from the internet ?"
Here you will click NO because for XYZ, you have your custom data.

Then, you will be able to view data for XYZ in DreamTai.

Another way is to download free stock quotes by getting a free stock quotes downloader software from http://www.traderji.com
You just have to search there

Again, within 30 days of purchase, if you feel that DreamTai is not suitable for you, please contact me and I will issue you full refund.

Please feel free to ask more questions.

Sincerely,
Sanjoy
