Question from a User:
In view of the recent problems with Yahoo's stock data, I started to wonder what would happen if you stopped supporting the program and fixing the inevetible changes that happen in life, data streams and software. I really like this program and want it to keep working. Why does Yahoo allow people to obtain their stock data free of charge and is there some other way to obtain the data needed by the program if this arrangement ever ended.
Thanks again for a great program Sanjoy!
Answer:
Hi,
When I created DreamTai, I intentionally made it compatible with free Yahoo data because I did not want users spending money to buy data.
Yahoo gives free data at present. If it stops giving free data, you may have to buy the data from Yahoo or from some other vendor like TradeStation or Metastock and then export it to DreamTai.
For example, Indian stock markets do not give out free historical data. So, DreamTai users there use tools like MetaStock or other software to download data to DreamTai.
DreamTai users in SriLanka (Ceylon) do not have Yahoo data so they create their own price data files manually.
Some users use DreamTai for futures, commodities or currency trading. They create their own data file.
DreamTai uses ASCII CSV price data format which is a universally accepted data format. So it is very simple to export data to DreamTai from other data vendors. You can open any price file in Excel and edit it.
Try opening any CSV price file in your DreamTai folder using Excel.
Life is unpredictable so sometimes we have to accept it and adapt to the situation.
